Our Story

A Shimus began with a familiar frustration. While working in New York, the founder struggled to find professional clothing that truly fit her petite frame. Jackets felt oversized, waistlines sat too low, proportions were always slightly off. Tailoring became routine. Compromise became expected. And over time, it became clear this wasn’t a personal problem - it was a design one.

Workwear simply wasn’t being created with scale in mind. A Shimus was founded to change that. From the very first pattern, every garment is designed specifically for petite proportions, with careful attention to balance, movement, and ease. Fit is never an adjustment or an afterthought, it’s the starting point. The result is workwear that feels natural the moment you put it on, allowing you to focus on your day rather than your clothes.

Craft is central to everything we do. A Shimus partners closely with skilled manufacturers in Japan, working across fabric development, tailoring, and construction. This small-batch, detail-driven approach reflects a deep respect for Japanese craftsmanship - where quality is built slowly, and longevity is the ultimate measure of value.
Our collections are designed to live within real wardrobes. Tailored pieces that hold their shape. Silk dresses that move with ease. Separates that work together and wear well over time. Clothing that feels polished without being rigid, and refined without feeling precious.

At its core, A Shimus exists to support women navigating modern professional life. Not by telling them who to be, but by creating clothing that fits properly, lasts longer, and feels quietly confident in every setting.

A Shimus is not driven by trends. It is guided by intention, craftsmanship, and fit.

A Note From The Founder

A.SHIMUS was born from personal experience. As a petite woman in finance, I spent years searching for workwear that felt appropriate, confident, and truly well-fitting—without compromise.

I created A.SHIMUS to change that.

Every piece is designed specifically for petite women in business, with fit as the foundation. Each pattern, proportion, and detail is thoughtfully considered to support how women move, work, and lead.

Inspired by Japanese craftsmanship, we partner with skilled artisans to create garments defined by precision, intention, and longevity.

A.SHIMUS is personal, but built for a community—women shaping their own paths. My hope is that when you wear it, you feel confident, capable, and entirely yourself.

Why Made in Japan

Japan is known for craftsmanship that favors precision over scale, and longevity over speed. It is a place where garment making remains a respected discipline, defined by technical mastery, rigorous standards, and an uncompromising approach to quality. Producing in Japan allows A Shimus to work with highly skilled artisans and small manufacturers who specialize in pattern accuracy, fabric handling, and refined construction. This expertise ensures garments hold their shape, wear beautifully over time, and deliver a level of consistency that mass production cannot replicate.

Japanese manufacturing is inherently slower and more considered. Small-batch production, advanced textile engineering, and meticulous finishing contribute to a higher cost—but also to garments that last longer, perform better, and require fewer replacements.

Choosing Made in Japan is an investment. It reflects a commitment to quality, responsible production, and workwear designed to endure well beyond the season.
